The good news is that the new M1 processor’s gaming performance was better than I expected, especially when considering Apple’s first notebook powered exclusively by its in-house silicon. It’s hardly like running Windows natively via Boot Camp, but it’s not half-bad with native ARM apps. Thanks to Parallels, the venerable Apple virtual machine software company, the Windows 10 for ARM preview will run on an M1 Mac with surprisingly workable performance. That means it can perform fantastically well, even on Macs like the MacBook Air that come without a built-in fan. The massively multiplayer online role-playing game is one of the few titles that runs natively on the M1 chip without the need for Rosetta 2 or third-party software. If you want a dedicated gaming laptop, the MacBook Air just isn’t for you. That said, it’s a great laptop nonetheless, and there are still several options for those who want to game on their Mac. The MacBook Air, whether it’s powered by Intel, or using the M1 Apple Silicon processor, isn’t a gaming laptop.
